YOUR RESONAMI GUIDE

Make it your own.

Find your next movie, show, or book. Keep track of what you know, tell Resonami what you enjoy, and choose what to share.

Updated · Looking for a quick answer? Read the FAQ.

1. Start with titles you know

  1. Sign in with your email. Use the code or magic link from the sign-in email.
  2. Use Search to find a movie, TV show, or book. Check the media label, year, and author so you pick the right version.
  3. Choose a score from 1 to 10. In Quick rate, set an optional seen/read date or draft a comment before choosing a score; the score saves immediately.
  4. Try a mix of favorites and disappointments. If a couple of titles you didn’t enjoy come to mind, rate those too. The optional guide suggests this while you build your first five ratings, but any five honest ratings complete it. Never lower a score just to finish. Your ratings across all three categories help build your taste.

The optional first-five guide can help you begin, but you can explore suggestions before rating five titles. Open the rating guide whenever you want a refresher.

The header shows your current total and separate Movies, TV, and Books rating counts. Each different title counts once. Saved changes update the numbers; changing a score or logging a rewatch doesn’t add another title.

2. Find your next watch or read

  1. Open Discover. Use All for a mix, or choose Movies, TV, or Books.
  2. Look at Your next picks for one featured choice per category. Read Why it fits to see the ratings and genre evidence behind it.
  3. Browse the regular suggestions for more options. Use Quick rate for something you already know, Details to learn more, or save it for later.

Next picks are the closest matches among your available suggestions, using your ratings across media. Ratings and optional recommendation feedback can trigger reconsideration. Use “Reconsider my next pick” to rank your available candidates again; a strong match may stay. “Show a different option” asks for an alternative without turning the previous pick into a dislike.

Rating, saving, skipping, starting, or dismissing a featured pick makes room for another eligible choice. Empty categories fill when suggestions are ready. Regular queues refill as you work through them; Refresh asks for a fresh selection.

Start watching / Start reading records the title as in progress in your library. It does not play a movie, open a stream, or provide a book. Find the title in In progress, then rate it when you finish.

Rate & refine offers single, grid, and list views when you want to work through familiar titles. Only rate things you’ve watched or read.

3. Ask for the kind of story you want

  1. While signed in, open Ask AI for suggestions on Discover.
  2. Select a movie, TV show, or book and finish “I’m looking for a… that…”
  3. Describe the mood, themes, pacing, or relationships you want. For example: “has sharp psychological tension, dark humor, and obsessive relationships.”
  4. Choose Find my suggestions and explore three catalog-checked matches with reasons.

Your request leads, with your ratings adding context. You can use it with no ratings. Requests can contain up to 1,000 characters, with up to 20 new requests per day; recent identical requests may reuse a shortlist. Live AI must be available.

Asking leaves your regular suggestions and next picks in place. You can rate, save, start, or dismiss a result as usual. Your request is not published or sent to analytics; its description and relevant taste information go to the AI service. Avoid including personal information. AI can miss details, and streaming availability is not checked.

4. Save titles and keep a viewing or reading history

Choose the action that matches what you mean
ActionWhat it does
Rate 1–10Saves your opinion and shapes your taste. Rating finishes an active viewing or reading and removes the title from your saved list.
Watchlist / Reading listSaves something to try later. A save is neutral, not a positive rating.
Start watching / Start readingTracks an active viewing or reading. It is neutral taste information.
SkipSets an unfamiliar or undecided title aside. Skips are neutral; your Profile controls when they can return.
Not interestedHides the title until you restore it and supplies a weaker negative signal than a numerical rating.

Open a title’s Viewing history to edit dates, log past viewings or reads, or finish an active one without changing its score. Use Watch again for a rewatch. Missing dates can stay unknown; rewatches and rereads keep separate entries while the title has one current rating.

Use My ratings to change or clear a score. Undo reverses a recent response; the U shortcut works on the current page when you aren’t typing or inside a dialog. Use Hidden titles to restore a skip or Not interested choice. In Profile, change the skip delay from its 30-day default.

5. Bring in your Goodreads library

  1. On Goodreads, open My Books → Import and export → Export Library, then download the CSV.
  2. Sign in to Resonami and open Import from Goodreads, also linked from Profile and the Books library views.
  3. Choose your CSV, review the preview and skipped rows, and select the books you want. Files can be up to 10 MB and contain up to 5,000 books.
  4. Choose Import selected books. Your imported scores appear in My ratings, to-read books in Reading list, and currently-reading books in progress.
Goodreads stars become Resonami scores
GoodreadsResonami
1 star2/10
2 stars4/10
3 stars6/10
4 stars8/10
5 stars10/10
0 starsUnrated

Matching existing books are skipped to preserve your Resonami entries. Known read dates are kept; missing dates stay unknown. The export does not supply covers or genres, and extra rereads are not reconstructed.

The raw file stays in your browser. Only selected book details are sent when you import; Goodreads reviews, private notes, and custom shelves are ignored. Completed batches stay saved if you stop. Retry the remaining selection, or use Undo imported books on the import page while the action is available. Undo will not overwrite a newer change.

If your public profile is enabled, imported ratings can update its shared My Taste and achievements.

6. Add a private comment or public review

  1. Open a title or its entry in My ratings and expand Add a comment (optional). You can also draft one in Quick rate before choosing a score.
  2. Write up to 2,000 characters. Choose Private — only me or Public review — anyone under Who can read this?
  3. Check Contains spoilers if your text reveals plot details.
  4. For a public review, save a rating and set your profile name if prompted. Choose Publish review. For a private note, choose Save comment.

Your profile name is used on every public review. Changing it in Profile updates your existing reviews. Publishing a review keeps your profile’s sharing setting as it is: the review text, score, name, and update timestamp are public even when your profile is private.

Community reviews appear on title details and the public reviews page. Other readers see an Updated date, time, and their local timezone; hovering over it gives the full timestamp. Clicking a reviewer’s name or text opens their profile, or a private-profile message when sharing is off.

Readers choose Show review to reveal spoiler-marked text. You can edit a comment without changing its score. Switching it to private, removing its text, or clearing its rating withdraws it from public reviews.

Report a review

Sign in, choose Report review under another person’s public review, select a reason, optionally add details, and choose Send report. Reports go privately to the administrator’s queue. A report does not automatically remove the review. The administrator can dismiss it, apply a spoiler warning, or hide a review. Use Feedback for general app problems.

7. Choose your profile name, avatar, and sharing

  1. Open Profile. In Share your taste & achievements, enter a Profile name and choose Save profile name. This works while your profile stays private.
  2. To share your taste, choose a unique public username and select Make my profile public. Copy your link at resonami.com/profle/your-username.
  3. To add a photo, choose an image in Your avatar, review the preview, and select Save avatar. JPEG, PNG, and WebP images up to 5 MB are supported; the image is cropped to a square and displayed in a circle.
  4. If you also want to share the photo, select Show this avatar on my public profile and save. Both that choice and public-profile sharing must be on.

A public profile shows your chosen name and username, achievements, rating counts and averages, genre chart, top genres, and a favorite with its score. Your email, full rating list, private notes, saved lists, hidden titles, and viewing or reading history stay private.

Your username uses 3–30 letters, numbers, hyphens, or underscores, starting and ending with a letter or number. Save public profile to change it. Earlier username links lead to the current profile. Use Make private to replace the profile with a private-profile message. Your separately published reviews stay public until you change their visibility.

Use Remove avatar to delete the stored photo, or turn off its public sharing choice and save. Replacing or removing an avatar stops access through its old public URL; copies other people have saved cannot be recalled.

Achievements count different rated titles across movies, TV, and books, from your first rating through 1,000. Earned awards remain earned after a clear or Undo, while the live counter shows your current ratings. On My taste, you can also make a downloadable card from genres and favorites you select. Creating a card does not publish your profile.

8. Try the free finder without an account

  1. Open the Free movie, TV & book finder.
  2. Choose Books from a movie or TV show, search Movies or TV shows, optionally narrow by year, and select the right title. Choose Find my next book.
  3. Or choose Movies & TV from a book, search a book title with an optional author, select the book, and choose movies, TV, or both. Choose Find my next watch.
  4. Read three explained connections and what to expect. An optional focus puts that connection first in the same shortlist. Copy the shortlist to keep it.

The finder searches the live catalogs beyond the starter titles. Results depend on catalog coverage and usable book descriptions. AI can make mistakes, and the tool does not check streaming availability. Free request limits apply. It does not use your private ratings or add results to your account automatically.

For ready-to-read editorial comparisons, browse the reading guides. For recommendations based on your whole taste, sign in and rate titles you know.

9. Read community scores and check a source

Media labels and icons identify Movies, TV shows, and Books. Source rows show a community average and vote count when the provider has them: TMDB uses a 10-point scale and Open Library uses a 5-point scale. These are separate from your own 1–10 score and are not personal match percentages.

Choose View on TMDB, View on Open Library, or the available Goodreads source link to open the primary catalog record. An absent score means there isn’t a usable provider score available; it does not mean zero. Imported books may have a Goodreads source link without a community rating.

10. Watch and read together in Clubs

  1. Open Clubs from navigation or the footer. Browse public clubs, then sign in to join. Set your profile name if prompted.
  2. To start one, choose a name and description, select Private · invite only or Public · anyone can join, and choose Create club. Private is the initial choice.
  3. On the club page, expand Add to the shared lists. Search for a title and choose Add to watchlist or Add to reading list. These are club lists, separate from your personal lists and ratings.
  4. Owners can pin one next watch and one next read, remove any shared title, edit settings, manage members, and transfer ownership. Members can add titles and remove their own contributions.
  5. As owner, choose Create invite link, copy it, and share it with people you want to join. Invitations expire in seven days. A new link replaces the previous one; Revoke invite disables it immediately.

Open an invitation, sign in if needed, then confirm Accept invitation & join. If session storage is blocked, reopen the original link after signing in. Private club pages are available only after joining. Public descriptions and lists are visible to visitors; member names are visible only to fellow members. Your profile’s sharing setting stays unchanged.

Members can use Leave this club. Contributed titles stay on the shared lists. Owners must transfer ownership to another member before leaving, or type the club name in Owner settings to delete the club. A public club can be rejoined after removal; owners can revoke private invitations when removing someone. Changing club visibility or ownership also revokes existing invitations.

Each account can own up to 10 clubs and belong to 50. Each club supports 200 members and 200 shared titles. Voting, discussions, group picks, history, and in-app activity are available to members.

Choose, discuss, and finish together

  1. Vote for shared titles you would enjoy. You can support several candidates and remove your vote. Members see the totals; the owner uses Confirm next watch or Confirm next read to choose the next selection.
  2. Choose Discussion beside a title. Post a reaction, check Contains spoilers for plot details, and reveal other spoiler comments only when ready. Comments show the author’s profile name and local timestamp. Authors and the club owner can delete comments. Discussions are visible only to current members, including in public clubs.
  3. After the club finishes a title, the owner chooses Mark completed. It moves into history with its discussion. Members can optionally rate it from 1–10 for the club average. Club ratings never change personal ratings. Owners can return a title to the shared list, restarting voting.
  4. Under Picks for your club, choose whether your numerical ratings contribute to recommendations. This is off until you opt in for that club. At least two members with genre ratings must opt in. The strongest candidates come from the club’s shared lists, balancing each member equally. Personal scores and titles are not revealed, and this matching does not send data to AI. Picks update as ratings, titles, and participation change.
  5. Club activity shows new titles, votes, selections, discussions, completions, and club ratings. The navigation and your club cards show unread counts. Pages refresh updates every 30 seconds while visible. Use Mark as read or mute unread activity for an individual club. No email notifications are sent.

Active lists hold up to 200 titles; history holds up to 1,000 completed selections. Discussions allow 2,000 characters per comment and 1,000 comments per title, with 10 new comments per member per club per 10-minute window and 50 across clubs per hour. Leaving removes your votes, club ratings, taste participation, and unread settings; contributed titles and comments remain. Comments from former members are labelled Former member.
